How to Find and Copy a TikTok Video Link

Every downloader, every repost, every "look at this" text message starts with the same thing: a working TikTok link. It is not always obvious how to grab one, especially if you switch between the app and the web. This short guide covers every source, every device, and the small tricks that make links behave.

Copying a link inside the TikTok app

This is the most common path. Open TikTok, find the video, tap the arrow icon on the right side of the screen (the same icon that has Bookmark and comments). A share sheet slides up, choose Copy link. The link is now on your clipboard, ready to paste.

The link you get looks like https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8xyz/ or https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/1234567890123456789. Both work with ClearTik.

Copying a link from the TikTok website

Load tiktok.com in any browser and find the video you want. On desktop, right-click the video and choose Copy Video Address, or copy the URL from the address bar while the video is playing. On mobile web, tap the share icon under the video and choose Copy link, same result as the app.

URLs from the web are the long format (with @username and the video ID), which is helpful for humans reading the link.

Copying a link from a creator's profile

Open the creator's profile, tap the video thumbnail to open it, then use the share arrow to Copy link. If the video is pinned to the top of the profile, the flow is identical.

On desktop, click into the video from the profile grid, then copy from the address bar. That gives you the direct long URL, useful for citing the exact clip.

Short links vs long links

TikTok generates short links (vm.tiktok.com/xxxx) when you use the Copy link button. Short links redirect to the full URL when opened. They are easier to paste into chats and character-limited posts, and they contain no tracking parameters.

Long links (tiktok.com/@user/video/id) come from the address bar or the web share menu. They are more informative for a human because they include the creator's handle, but they can carry tracking parameters (?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc etc.).

For downloading, both formats work equally well. For sharing with people, short links are cleaner. For citing in an article, long links are more useful.

Cleaning tracking parameters

If you copy a URL that includes ?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=... you can safely delete everything from the ? onward. The core link (up to the video ID) is all any downloader or share needs.

What to do when the share menu is missing

On some accounts, creators disable downloads and sharing. The share arrow still appears but the Copy link option is grayed out or missing. In that case, no third-party tool can save the video either, sharing controls are set at the creator level.

Workaround: if you are logged into TikTok on the web, you can usually still copy the URL from the browser address bar even if the in-app share menu is restricted. That link may or may not be openable in incognito, if it opens for anyone not logged in, ClearTik can process it. If it does not, sharing is off for that video and there is nothing to do.
